Tuesday May 26th 2-5pm
Third Space in partnership with Community Knowledge Initiative, NUI Galway, Galway City Community Network, Galway Community Arts Network and Bluedrum cohosts
Cultural Rights Workshop
Venue: The View, Áras na Mac Léinn, NUI Galway
Workshop Aim: to explore cultural rights as possible drivers for change in communities of place, interest and identity.
Rationale: We want to explore with community members, activists and artists, opportunities to advance cultural rights in Galway.
Cooperative practices at local level can help identify collective rights and empower socially excluded children, families and communities to articulate needs and hold policy to account.
Objectives:
– Explore what we mean by culture
– Introduce some bright ideas about rights e.g. from the International Covenant on Social, Economic and Cultural Rights and the Human Rights and Equality Act 2014.
– Draw out the role of values and how these work in practice. Deliberate how to progress work identified in the Creative Communities Report (2013)
The event is free but places are limited and booking is essential. If you have any queries and to book your place, please contact email Ann Lyons at 087-7677080 / ann.lyons@nuigalway.ie
